How to Read a Fadal Fault Code
Type MU at the command line to bring up the menu, then check pages 40 and 41 for the axis and spindle controller error list. These numbered errors, 1 through 33, come from the axis or spindle controller itself. They are more specific than the plain language messages the control shows during normal operation, and they are the ones that actually point at a failed component instead of a program error.
Fault Codes That Point to a Failed Part
No Motor Feedback
Appears on power up if no motor feedback, resolver or encoder, or no motor motion is detected by the axis controller. Points to a failing servo motor.
Usual fix: confirm your motor's encoder line count, then order the matching servo motor. MTR-0139, 5000 line or MTR-0142, 8192 line.
Servo Amplifier Fault Line Down
The axis card cannot detect the fault line signal from the amplifier, or the signal has dropped below 10V. Check the amplifier's Hall Error, Encoder Error, and Index LEDs first. If either error LED is lit, the motor is the likely cause, not the amplifier.
Usual fix: confirm your amplifier family, then order the matching replacement. AMP-0028, AMP-0038, AMP-0039, AMP-0040, or AMP-0040C.
Spindle Fault Line Down
The fault line signal to the spindle inverter should stay high during spindle operation. If it drops low while the spindle is running, this code fires.
Usual fix: Fadal spindle drive or spindle motor. INV-0098, Glentek spindle drive or MTR-0282, 15HP spindle motor.
Encoder and Magnet Not Responding, or Spindle Not Running
Fires when no proper spindle feedback response is detected for longer than 3 seconds. Often a motor encoder issue, not a drive issue. Watch for a load meter that pegs or pulsates instead of reading steady. That pattern points at the encoder, and gets misdiagnosed as a bad drive more often than it should.
Usual fix: MTR-0282, 15HP spindle motor. Replaces Fadal MTR-0046, MTR-0101, MTR-0109, MTR-0110, and MTR-0147.
Fault Code Not Listed Here?
This covers the codes tied most directly to spindle and axis motion components. For the full error message reference, including program errors, ATC faults, and pallet changer faults, see the complete Fadal fault code reference.
Machine Down Right Now?
If you have matched your fault code to a part above, browse the Fadal motion components hub to find the exact drive, amplifier, or motor for your control type. In stock parts ship same day before 2pm MT.
