When You Need One

Extension cables are typically needed for encoder travel lengths of 100 in or more, since the standard reader head cable is 11.5 ft. Not needed if a Lathe Carriage Mount is used.

Newall's Own Advice: Order One Anyway on Long Travels

Newall recommends ordering an extension cable on longer travels even if you're not sure you'll need it. Unused cables can be returned for full credit.
