Fadal Geneva ATC Turret Spindle — ATC-0027
The ATC-0027 is the turret spindle shaft at the center of the Fadal Geneva-drive automatic tool changer. It carries the tool carrier plate (ATC-0009), supports the full tool load through every M6 index cycle, and runs on needle and thrust bearings that take constant wear in high-cycle environments.
When this shaft binds, wears, or fails, the turret stops indexing and the machine is down until it's replaced.
Compatibility
Fits Fadal VMC models with the Geneva-drive ATC carousel, including:
- VMC 4020 / 4020A
- VMC 4525
- VMC 5020A
- VMC 6030
- VMC 3016 / 3020
Confirm your ATC type before ordering — Geneva-drive machines use this shaft; DATC24 dual-arm machines use a different assembly.
Related ATC Components
The turret spindle works in assembly with:
- ATC-0009 — Tool Carrier (attaches to the bottom of this shaft)
- ATC-0028 — Tool Retention Ring, CAT tooling
- ATC-0029 — Tool Retention Ring, BT tooling
- BRG-0011 — Turret spindle bearing (needle / thrust)
- BRG-0033 — Turret spindle thrust bearing
If the shaft is worn, inspect the bearings before reassembly. A seized lower bearing is a common root cause of turret bind and is often missed on the first diagnosis.
Common Failure Indicators
- Turret rotation stiff or requiring manual assist to index
- ATC fault codes on turret position sensor
- Audible bind or drag during M6 tool change cycles
- Carousel plate not seating cleanly at position
