Fadal Spindle Motor Filter Kit — MTR-0128

The MTR-0128 is the replacement filter kit for the Fadal spindle motor cooling fan intake. The spindle motor runs continuous duty cycles in a chip-laden environment, the filter is the only thing standing between that air and the motor windings. A clogged or missing filter restricts airflow, drives up motor temperature, and accelerates winding failure.

This is a scheduled maintenance item on every Fadal VMC. Most shops replace it annually or whenever they see reduced airflow at the motor housing.

Function

The spindle motor is fan-cooled, drawing ambient air across the windings to manage operating temperature. The MTR-0128 kit provides the filter media and housing assembly that sits at the fan intake, trapping coolant mist, aluminum fines, and airborne shop debris before they enter the motor. Without it, contamination builds up on the windings and commutator, leading to insulation breakdown and premature motor failure.

Compatible with Baldor spindle motors (5HP, 10HP, 15HP, 20HP configurations). Confirm motor model before ordering if running a non-standard spindle configuration.

Maintenance Interval

Fadal's scheduled maintenance guidelines recommend inspecting the spindle motor filter at every PM interval. In high-production environments running aluminum or coolant-heavy operations, inspect every 3–6 months. Replace when filter media is visibly loaded or airflow at the intake is noticeably reduced.
